Overview

Hydroxyzine, marketed as Atarax or Vistaril, is a first-generation antihistamine with anxiolytic, sedative, and anti-itch properties. It blocks H₁-receptors and depresses subcortical CNS activity.

Adults: 25–50 mg up to four times daily. Children: 0.6 mg/kg per dose. Taken orally or intramuscularly. Avoid alcohol and other sedatives.
