Overview

Aripiprazole, sold as Abilify, is an atypical antipsychotic that acts as a partial dopamine D₂ and serotonin 5-HT₁A agonist and 5-HT₂A antagonist, balancing neurotransmitter activity.

Adults: 10–30 mg once daily. For depression adjunct: 2–15 mg/day. Take with or without food.

Side Effects & Warnings

Common: restlessness (akathisia), insomnia, and nausea. Serious: neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, and metabolic effects (weight gain, hyperglycemia).
