Overview

Clonazepam, marketed as Klonopin, is a long-acting benzodiazepine used primarily for seizure disorders and anxiety. It enhances GABA-mediated inhibition in the central nervous system, producing anticonvulsant and anxiolytiTreats absence, myoclonic, and panic disorders. Also used for restless-leg syndrome, acute mania, and sleep disorders.

Dosage & Administration

For seizures: start at 0.5 mg three times daily, increasing gradually to a maximum of 20 mg/day. For panic disorder: 0.25–0.5 mg twice daily, titrated slowly. Long-term therapy requires gradual dose adjustments.

SideAvoid alcohol and other sedatives. Taper slowly if discontinuing. Not recommended for long-term use due to tolerance risk.
